This makes JavaScript an excellent choice for some on-line games, since once the page is downloaded the user can play away without requiring any further downloads or interaction with the server. Yahtzee is the first in a planned series of JavaScript games. The design was based on the use of the green boxed area to mimic the green baize of gaming tables in casinos and the like. The scores are all built up from separate images of the numbers 0-9. This gives a good, consistent feel to the page and also prevents the users from tampering with the scores! The images required careful work to keep their file size as small as possible to minimise the download time for the page. The site is finished off with a high score table feature, allowing user interaction and a goal to aim for. |
